Tiny Clients, Huge Personalities
Crafting a space that grows with two imaginative toddlers — without losing the modern organic vibe.
Project Journal: The Twin Girls’ Room Makeover (Part 1 – The Starting Canvas)
Welcome to my Project Journal — a behind-the-scenes look at how I turn real spaces into beautiful, functional reflections of the people who live in them. Every project tells a story, and this one begins with two tiny clients and a whole lot of personality.
My newest clients are two small but mighty three-year-olds who just happen to be twins. They’re different yet alike — one might prefer sparkles, the other stripes — but they both agree on one thing: all things pink and purple.
Meanwhile, my design aesthetic leans modern organic — think calm, natural textures, clean lines, and a sense of balance. The challenge (and joy)? To marry my clean, timeless approach with the lively spirit of two little girls who see the world as one big, colorful adventure.
The Design Goal
The space needs to be functional and playful, without feeling overly themed or cluttered. It should grow with the girls — inviting imagination now, but still making sense as they get older.
And because every parent knows that fewer messes equal happier days, my goal is to design a room where everything has a home. When things are easy to reach and easy to return, the girls can start learning independence while the parents reclaim a little sanity.
The Starting Canvas

Here’s what we’re working with:
Built-in closets with soft-close drawers and plenty of shelving (a promising start).
Light-colored carpet in good condition. Miracles happen.
A dresser that’s graduated from the nursery days. Perhaps ready to find a new home. Facebook Marketplace here we come.
A small mirror that’s easily removable.
Curtains that are halfway falling off the wall. We love a dramatic exit.
A chrome ceiling fixture that’s ready for an upgrade.
Crown molding and freshly painted walls — a great backdrop
It’s a solid foundation, with lots of opportunity to add warmth, personality, and purpose.
Crafting the Mood Board
Now it’s time to go back to the drawing board (literally). I’ll start by crafting a mood board that brings together what the parents envision and what the girls love. It will guide the look and feel of the space — balancing calm and natural tones with pops of playful pink and purple.
I draw inspiration everywhere: walking through stores (even when I’m not furniture shopping), flipping through design magazines, and of course, scrolling through Pinterest for that perfect spark.
What’s Next
In Part 2, I’ll share the first round of the mood board — where modern organic meets childhood wonder. Think soft neutrals, natural materials, and just enough pink and purple to make two little hearts light up.
Stay tuned — it’s about to get fun.
